Headwaters Trails Inc. is sponsoring a river cleanup of the Shiawassee River from Holly to Byron as part of the effort to get the Shiawassee River Heritage Water Trail open for paddling early in the year. We would like to do the this all at once over the weekend of May 19 & 20, 2018, at the beginning of the paddling season rather than have multiple cleanups throughout the summer. We are looking for people to lead groups in different sections of the river who have experience with our guidelines and techniques, as well as volunteers who would like to participate regardless of whether or not they have done this before or have any tools. We will be picking up trash as well as cutting logs that have fallen in the river. We only clear enough to get boats through, and do not clear from bank to bank. The logs we cut are anchored along the banks for shore protection. Let us know if you can join us and if you need a place in one of our boats. We will provide pizza at the end of the cleanup for all the participants as well as snack bars and drinks during the cleanup. Contact Chuck Julian at [email protected].
